Chicago Mornings: for my Father

  Outside at daybreak

  among the halcyon’s of summers

  regalia: the absent peopled cars

  lined against the parallel

  city walks_ warming to

  mornings smile;

  heads on poles, quarter

  eating mechanisms keep watch,

  ticketer sentinels.

  The occasional stray person,

  before the mobs that flow

  in commute across walkways_

  employee tidal wave phenomena

  to perpetuate the grind.

  Navy Pier: illustrations of youth.

  Sales; snatches of people across

  an evolution of time.

  A moment suspended, trend and

  concrete absorbing sun,

making the coast and all golden.
