Haikus: To a new winter

Listening to the

violence of snowfall. Nothing

 stirs; no wind.

Cigarette smoke and

breath. The cool air from my lungs:

 both disguised.

Snowmen looking on_

some of them one eyed or slouched,

lazy in the warmth.

Everything sounds new

with the fallen snow. Muffeled

in soft atmosphere.

Blinking lights, flashing

sales and bodies hurrying

about. Once a year.
